what we do

Lyrica Baroque aims to expand access to arts education through school-based social emotional learning (SEL) support programs centered in chamber music. After decades of dwindling funding for arts education, there has been a resurgence of the arts movement and its key role in schools and childhood development. At the same time, social emotional learning has emerged as an educational priority by researchers and school leaders amidst high incidences of stress, anxiety and trauma, conflated by a lack of mental health school supports— and our children are bearing the brunt of this crisis. For New Orleans students, who are disparately impacted by the interconnected racial, economic, healthcare and environmental injustices mental health school supports are more important than ever.

The emphasis of SEL in K-12 settings, coupled with the near absence of classical music education calls for a comprehensive tool that leverages artistic expression and SEL skill building to restore and revitalize classroom education, and enrich the lives of children as they navigate a complex social world and traumatic life events— especially post-COVID. Lyrica Baroque is working to fill this gap in social, emotional, and behavioral health supports in schools through our arts-integrated, SEL program. We are partnering with New Orleans-based nonprofit, KID smART, to develop a curricula adaptation of KID smART’s With Feeling curriculum that integrates chamber music as a core component.

our festival

NOLA Chamber Fest is an annual chamber music festival and competition collaboratively presented by Lyrica Baroque, New Orleans Friends of Music and the University of New Orleans. The festival aims to inspire and motivate musicians through the unique experience of tight-knit collaboration and artistic independence that only chamber music can offer. NCF offers aspiring musicians access, opportunity and exposure to perform, compete and learn alongside their peers.

Our five-day festival includes performances by world renowned chamber ensembles, an online competition, masterclasses and Creativity Day for local musicians who lack exposure to chamber music. We are honored to partner with The Roots of Music, Palacios House of Arts and Crescent City String Academy.

performance

Lyrica Baroque is a unique gathering of artists who perform and educate through diverse, community-centered programs. Known for their innovative approach combining instrumental and vocal chamber music, the group began as a trio of musicians performing in the French Quarter with a focus on Baroque repertoire. The ensemble has grown and evolved, pushing musical boundaries through collaboration with world renowned guest artists and the exploration of repertoire beyond the Baroque era. Three-time winner of Best Chamber Music Performance in Gambit Magazine’s Tribute to the Classical Arts, Lyrica Baroque’s artists have worked with leading organizations throughout the world including the Cleveland Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony, Detroit Symphony, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Grand Teton Music Festival, and Metropolitan Opera, among others. The ensemble has performed two Gulf South tours and made their debut at Chautauqua Institution in Summer 2019. Check our events to hear us live or watch us on youtube!
